Toys for Iraq

I had heard about a couple of soldiers in Iraq that were collecting small toys to give out to the Iraqi children they met. What a great idea! It is so easy to have a ridiculous amount of small toys from Happy Meals and small stuffed animals laying around. So I sat Tess down and we talked about how blessed we are and how there are other kids who don't have toys to play with. I asked if she wanted to share some of her toys with other kids and she couldn't wait to do it! I thought she might be a little hesitant because her "animal friends" are very important to her. She occasionally will play with a doll but it is her animals that are her constant companions. As we started going through them she picked out a couple of her favorites and wanted to give ALL the rest to needy children. I was so proud of her--especially when she was willing to give some very special ones away! Of course, there were quite a few sentimental ones that I pulled out of the pile to keep but she was very generous.

Here's the letter we put in the box. Here is one very generous little girl very excited to share her toys.
Here's the info if your interested:

The post office will send you free supplies for sending a care package to the military. You can order it by calling (800) 610-8734 and request Care Kit 4. They will send boxes, tape, customs form and address labels. The boxes aren't very big (but I think the troops probably only want small toys--ones they can carry with them to pass out when the see a child.) You still have to pay for shipping (it cost us about $10.)

Here is the address to send the toys.
