Joel has spend the last 2 and half months on Royal Caribbean International's newest ship, the Allure of the Seas. Here are some quick facts about this incredible ship which is the largest cruise ship to date:
- 1,187 feet long
- 24 guest elevators
- 4 bow thrusters
- 208 feet wide
- 16 passenger decks
- 6,296 guests
- 2,165 crew
- The AquaTheatre pool is 17.9 feet deep, the largest pool at sea
- The Central Park Neighborhood is a living park at sea, with 12,175 plants, 62 vine plants, 56 trees and bamboo, some over 24 feet in length
The girls and I were able to see some of the always amazing scenery before it left the shop where Joel works. It's fun to see some snippets on line of the shows and see that same scenery now in place with the performers. Here is one of the Captain's blog entries about some of the scenery. Joel welded part of the trampolines together (and the girls tried them out in the shop, shhhhh!) We also saw the tree being made in his shop.
Joel was Scenic Technical Director for two of the shows and just yesterday I saw his name printed in one of Royal Caribbean's entertainment programing guides! What an amazing job he does, I'm so proud of him!
But two and half months was a REALLY long time to be apart, and we were anxious to get him home. Can you tell from these happy faces?
